Induction Program Support

Goals and Benefits of Support

  • Accelerate your understating of a new job and new school

  • Reduce the stress of transition to a new career or district

  • Improve instructional performance

Professional Development Core The Professional Development Core (PDC) is designed to provide all teachers with a clear and comprehensive introduction to the instructional skill set that is the core of the Boise School District’s vision for excellence in teaching. The program is organizationally based around the Frameworks for Teaching model (Charlotte Danielson) and draws upon the wide body of research in instructional theory and best practices.

The PDC must be completed by:

  • New to Profession Teachers (NP): NP teachers are enrolled in a 3 credit New to Profession Induction Seminar (paid for by the District) that meets before the school year begins and then on a monthly basis throughout their first year of employment with the District. This seminar exposes new teaching staff to the District's expectations and culture concerning classroom management, planning and instruction.

  • New to District Teachers (ND):ND teachers participate in an Induction Seminarthat meets before the school year begins and twice during their first year of employment. ND teachers must also demonstrate proficiency in skills associated with classroom management, as well as planning and instruction. These proficiencies can be demonstrated by the completion of the PDC courses (Classroom Management: It’s No Secret, and Planning for Learning) or through demonstration of proficiency which is attested by their building principal. Demonstration of Proficiency waiver. The District covers the cost of all materials for the core classes. *Teacher (ND) is responsible for the cost of the credit.  B7 Inservice credit is offered at no cost to the teacher.

*All NP and ND teachers are required to attend the Darkness to Light training on protecting students.  Trainings are offered throughout the school year.
